History of St Katherine Group
The St Katherine story has its roots in St Katharine Docks, London, England.
Terry Williams and his business partner Sunil Shah established St Katherine Limited (UK) in 2010 to invest opportunistically in real estate, filling the void left by the banking community after the 2008/9 financial crisis. They initially acted as a secured lender to developers on projects with sound fundamentals but later progressed to funding, building and managing their own developments.
With a focus on student housing and locations with good transit links, the team built a variety of projects, including 3 student dorms in Southampton, UK which is now managed under its Urba-Life brand. www.urba-life.co.uk
Nick Williams formed St Katherine Group (US) in 2012. Embracing the theme of transit hubs and student housing, Nick identified municipalities that offered good transportation connections to Manhattan along the Metro North train line. His early focus was Rye, NY, Greenwich, CT, and New Rochelle, NY and the company was an early investor in Port Chester, NY where today several sites are in various stages of planning and development.
The St Katherine Group’s multi-disciplinary approach is organized around 3 core functions: Development, Investment, and Construction.
Development drives our investment strategy. Unlike many other developers who build to satisfy their own aspirations, we work closely with municipalities to build what is needed. We then identify, analyze and underwrite the projects that align with the group’s overall strategy.
St Katherine Equity Partners manages and structures each project with the most efficient use of available debt and equity.
It’s our policy to always invest in our own projects alongside our investment partners. This commitment ensures both of our objectives are aligned.
Our in house construction team acts as the owner’s representative/construction manager from inception to completion. We are committed to building responsibly and seek out the latest innovations in energy efficiency and eco-friendly techniques and technology.
We believe a successful development is one where both the municipality and the investor benefit.
Nick’s boundless energy is balanced with a sharply analytical business acumen, earned through years at the coal-face in the finance sector. He has been instrumental in establishing St Katherine Group’s core tenets and principles enabling the group to finance, structure and build its portfolio in the US. It is his ideology and drive that spearhead the group’s efforts in mixed-use, multi-family developments in downtown locations along mass transit lines leading in and out of New York City.
Prior to founding St Katherine, Nick worked the majority of his career at D.E.Shaw and Co and has a BSc in Business from the University of Surrey, UK.
Dwight began his relationship with St Katherine as a silent equity investor in many of its projects. Following the introduction of Qualified Opportunity Zone Regulation across the country in 2017, Dwight joined St Katherine to establish our own fund and take a more active role in financing our development pipeline. Dwight brings 20 years experience as a partner at Basso Capital, which has managed $2bln+ in capital. Dwight has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with honors from the University of Chicago.
Investment and Development
Ryan joined the St Katherine Group in July of 2018 following his graduation from the University of Michigan. Ryan is an integral member of the team helping complete day to day operations. His responsibilities have ranged from closing out St Katherine’s project in New Rochelle to underwriting potential projects and performing market research. Ryan has a bachelor’s degree in Economics
With over 20 highly successful years in Finance in the U.K. and the U.S. behind him, Peter brings a sharply analytical eye to the management of St Katherine’s construction projects. Having risen to Head of Convertible Bond trading at DE Shaw / KBC in New York, Pete traded Wall Street for real estate to manage his burgeoning portfolio of properties in both the U.K. and the U.S. Today, his deep knowledge of property and project management, along with his natural ability to work with everyone, from building site to boardroom, makes Pete an invaluable member of the St Katherine team.
Matthew has been working with St Katherine since 2012. Matthew handles day to day operations in Oxford, MS and has been instrumental in permitting and approving our Woodson Ridge subdivision. In 2020, we will begin the 4th and final phase consisting of 30 homes. Matthew holds a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University.
Charlie heads up our accounting and treasury function and is responsible for the group’s financial compliance. Charlie worked in the audit department at RSM Global prior to joining the team at St Katherine in 2019. Charlie holds a 1st class honors degree in Economics from Sheffield University and is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.
Terry was an innovator and early advocate for computing, founding his Business Computing company Wilco International Ltd in the early 1970’s.
He built Wilco into a 1200 employee, global business success based in London, UK. He founded St Katherine Group in 2010 after selling Wilco to ADP Inc.
A qualified Chartered Accountant by training, Sunil held the position of Chief Operations Officer at Wilco Ltd. At Wilco, he helped Terry build the company into a $100 million revenue, multinational business, prior to co-founding St Katherine Group in 2010. At St Katherine, Sunil has been instrumental in structuring, designing and managing each of the group’s projects in the UK. Sunil now manages the UK student portfolio under the brand of www.urba-life.co.uk.
Simone began her career as a management consultant at Arthur Andersen in Germany and worked primarily within their re-engineering group. She later joined as a partner at Tricadis Capital, the European private equity division of the Susquehanna Group, managing their real estate investments. Simone has extensive experience around mixed development, leasing, and project management in both European and US markets.
Marc was one of the earliest investors in St Katherine’s US projects. He has over two decades investment banking experience in global financial markets at Credit Suisse and Barclays Capital. Now retired from the financial industry, Marc invests in real estate and other assets. Marc has a BA from Brown University and MBA from Columbia Business School.
Roger has extensive experience in pulp and paper manufacturing, supply chain and resource management through his highly successful career at Asia Pacific Resource Internal Limited and at AP Chemical. His real estate interests commenced in 2014 when he began investing in European commercial offices. Since then he has completed transaction to the value of US$500m. He has a BA (Business) from Ottawa University, an MBA from University Global 21 Institute and is completing a Masters in Real Estate at the National University of Singapore.
